Camper Jim's Comments on Onaway State Park Campground
The highlight of this park is Black Lake. A beautiful lake known for it's Sturgeon and Walleye fishing. I have caught many Walleye myself on this lake and have never been disappointed. There is a huge natural shoreline that covers a large part of this lake that is (or was, not sure) owned by the UAW. The private golf course is now public and many have said that it's the most beautiful course in Northern Michigan. We have sometimes parked the boat over by this natural area and spent the day swimming in the shallow sand.

The park itself is nice with large white pines throughout it's landscape. If you don't have a camper and don't like sleeping in a tent, this park has a great option for you. The Shoreview cabin offers a covered front porch area, large universally accessible deck, fire circle, refrigerator, microwave, outdoor grill, rowboat and electricity. It sleeps up to six, with two sets of bunk beds in separate rooms and a futon couch in the main living area. Campers must supply their own bedding, dishes and cookware. This 400-square foot cabin is situated about 50 feet from the Black Lake shoreline, and 300 ft from the parks designated swimming area on the southeast shore of Black Lake. Enjoy.
